New Beginnings: The Jazz Beat
The lights dimmed and a hush came over the crowd. Then, breaking the silence, music filled the air with its stimulating rhythm. Taking their cue, the singers danced as a group and sang harmoniously together.
Throughout the Images' performances they presented different styles of music. A new type of music tried was jazz. The decision was made by the new Images director, Dirk Colgrove. He was excited about this new idea.
"I hope to someday combine a jazz band and choir," said Colgrove.
To test this new style, the Images performed at the Cloud County Festival. During this swing festival, they sang and were critiqued by judges. This helped them to improve later performances where they sang and danced to jazz. The performers enjoyed this new music style.
"The jazz music is different, but I like it," said Stephanie Niehues, soph.
Not only was Images fun, but it was a great experience for the members. One could learn more about singing and dancing, and there was also the excitement about choreography and exploring new ideas.
