At the start of the year, the band's outlook appeared somewhat bleak, for the group had been depleted at a significant rate due to graduation and the seven-hour day, which had offered students more variety of classes. Still the band turned in a sucesful year as it headed for state for the first time in a long while.
District Band was held at Junction City High School on Tuesday April 9, and Nemaha Valley was one of the only four there to achieve the privilege of traveling to State competition. Twenty-nine bands competed in all. Ten individuals qualified for State in District Solo and Ensemble at Benedictine on Saturday March 23. Tim Lauer and Monica Starthman made it in the trumpet solo, respectively , and the brass choir repeated last year's performance by qualifying for state.
3A State Band was held at Sterling, where ten full groups participated. Our band received an average of II, while Monica and the brass choir also recieved II's and Tim Lauer finishing off with a III.
