The band department went through a number of changes. One major difference was the addition of Philip Atkinson, the new band teacher. Atkinson spent many practice hours with the students to perfect their skills.

"It was a major transition coming to a school this small," said Atkinson.

There were also fewer band students enrolled in the class. Although the numbers were less, the students started off with a sucessful Christmas concert, followed by another in the spring.

The band traveled to the league music festival at Hiawatha and also competed in the state band contest in Junction City.

"We are a small band, but we are orgainzied and we know our stuff," said Julie Lueger fr.

Both the band and vocal music departments were rewarded for their efforts with a trip to Worlds of Fun.
