Sound
of the Ages
Did you ever have to memorize the Gettysburg Address? How about certain
poems like "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare, or "O Captain!
My Captain!" by Walt Whitman? Did you enjoy memorizing these, and
did you have to recite them in front of a huge crowd? The vocal class
had their share of memorizing literary pieces and performing them in
front of many people, only they were in the form of music.
"I like vocal class because I feel really relaxed when I sing and
I look forward to it everyday," Laurie Lierz, sr., said.
The vocal class had to memorize numerous songs in order to prepare for
the fall and spring concerts directed by Dirk Colgrove. Members of the
community attended the concerts in order to spend a couple of nights
devoted to various types of music.
"Preparing for muscial concerts are the best, since we know what
we are going to sing, so we can practice it more in order to get it
perfect and sounding great," Chad Jones, so., said.
The songs sung by the third hour vocal class were ones like "Ezekiel's
Wheel," "Bridge Over Troubled Waters," "I Hear Liberty
Singing," "I Hear Music in Me," and many more.
"I enjoy having vocal scheduled right after break. I can talk to
my friends in the commons longer, since I can wait until there is only
around 30 seconds left to get down the stairs into the room," Christina
Griffis, sr., said.
