The Drama Department, directed by John Strickland, performed two one-act plays on Thursday, March 29, and Friday, March 30. The performances, which began at 7:00 each night, were met by a surprisingly large crowd.
"On our opening night, the crowd was bigger than I expected, and it made me nervous to be in front of a big crowd for my first performance." said Eric, soph.
The six person cast began the evening with Goodbye to the Clown". It was melodrama involving a little girl who got in trouble with her mother and at school because of an imaginary clown. As the play moved along, the little girl slowly realized that her father was dead and that the clown was imaginary replacement for him.
The second of the two plays, "It Always Worked for Errol Flynn", was a comedy set in New York City motel room. College students were staying there for a cultural enrichment trip. One of the guys, with the aid of his friend, planned and carried out the kidnapping of his dream-girl. Unfortunately, his friend did not know the girl and accidentally snatched the wrong one. It provided many laughs for the audience and was given very good reviews.
For these two performances, the cast put in six weeks of work. Willingness from all involved to provide much of the set helped to increase the success of the two plays.
"Without the cooperation of every member, the play would not have worked," said Strickland.
