Calendar
of Events
August
During August the KAY Membership Drive went on to get the students to join
KAY's. This year instead of doing the regular membership drive at school, we
had a membership drive at the swimming pool. We did this because the KAY theme
this year is Riding the Waves of KAY's. Also in the month of August the club
began random acts of kindness and recycling paper
September
During September we went to both of the care homes in Seneca and served their residents some ice cream and sang songs to them. We went to Crestview and Country View Care homes. The residents' families were also invited to help them enjoy this event.
October
During October our fundraising started in which we sold candles. KAY members also helped with the Blood Mobile. They helped in many ways whether it was calling the people so they would donate blood, work and help the people out, or bring cookies for the people that donated the blood. The KAY seniors also helped put on the KSHAA breakfast for the staff at Nemaha Valley. The Halloween Kiddie Carnival is also put on in the month of October. This is a great time for the young kids of the community to come to the high school and get ready for Halloween. While at the carnival kids can play many different games along with getting some candy. KAY's also recognize the student body for perfect attendance for the first nine weeks.
November
This year in November we held the Regional KAY Conference. We also have the
whole school participate in a scholars bowl. Another thing that we put on in
November is the Father-KAY Pot Luck.
December
During the month of December we do the sticker-tree project. The sticker tree project is when the students or faculty members go and buy stickers. Whoever has the most stickers on there tree would normally have to dress up as a Christmas tree for a day, but this year the KAY's did something different. This year the KAY's did a Sexy Leg Contest. The male faculty members participated in it and whoever had the most stickers at the end of the week had to shave their legs. All of the money goes to either a charity or fund. The KAY's also put on a Snowball dance along with the crowning of the Snowball royalty. The KAY's also have secret pals during this month in which their pal gives them something every day or a big gift at the end. To end up this month we have the student body decorate some sort of ornament and whoever has their ornament hanging on their locker gets visited by Santa.
January
The people who had perfect attendance were recognized by the KAY's for the
second nine weeks.
February
KAY's help host the second blood mobile and make cookies for it. We also do
Mr. Irresistible in which the KAY's all wear a heart and the have the boys get
the girl to talk to them. If they do then the girl then has to give up their
heart to the boy. Whoever has the most hearts at the end of the day will win
the Mr. Irresistible. The Unit Conference is held in Axtell during February
for the entire club and two sponsors.
March
The KAY social is held during this month. We hold this to thank the Nemaha
Valley KAY members for what they did throughout the year. We have pizza and
watch movies during the social. We also hold the KAY Easter Egg hunt for the
younger children in the community. It is normally held on the Raider football
field, if it is raining it is held in the gym.
April
The Wanda May Vinson scholarship deadline is in this month. We also hold the
Installation where we recognize the seniors and invite the next years freshmen
so they can get familiar with the KAY Club.
May
The new KAY board meets for a short meeting for the upcoming year. National PTA Week, and Staff Appreciation goes on during this month. We serve lunch for the Staff and PTA members.
