KAY Scholarship winners
Local and State
The state Wanda May Vinson scholarship is named after the KSHAA director and founder of the Kayettes; later the co-ed groups were named Kay. KAY's Money is collected and sent to KSHAA to continue awards in Ms. Vinson's name, for she currently lives in western Kansas.
In 1993, Miss Bloom wrote a grant through the Lifetouch Corporation that takes the student individual pictures. The NV KAY's received a $1000 grant for their continued community service. Because the club, under the President Megan O'Keefe had already raised that year's funds, the club decided to spend $100 in improving the equipment for the Halloween Carnival and to put aside for $225 scholarships for the next four years. Since then, the club has continued to award local scholarships in addition to forwarding the annual nominee to KSHAA for Wanda May Vinson award.
The scholarship applicant must have been a member for four years in the NVHS KAY organization. Local application for the Wanda May Vinson Scholarship is due to Miss Bloom by February 1; local nominee will advance to the KSHAA level with an application by April 1. The local recipient is chosen by a vote of the board of directors, the sponsors, the principal, and the activities' director. The local recipient is chosen by a majority vote.
If the state award does not equal or better the local award
($225), the local winner will receive both. If the state award equals or betters
the local award, the local scholarship will be given to the runner-up.
