Student Council

The past year was a busy, but successful, one for the Student Council. Before school had ever begun, preparation for the year's activities was well under way.
During the week of July 24-29, 1983, Bob Bair, Rox Mueting, and Diane Toby attended Student Council Camp in Emporia. They discovered many ways to improve the council and also brought home some ideas to get the student body more involved.
A birthday list, which provided the date of each student and faculty member's birthday was composed and the day was recognized in the announcements if the person so desired.
Homecoming, the major event of the year for Student Council, took careful planning and consideration. The band August was contracted for the dance before school had even commenced. Stuco was also in charge of building the float and organizing the parade. The event proved quite successful.
A student exchange with Holton in November enabled several students to observe how other councils function in their schools. The activity was enjoyed by all who participated.
For Christmas, the council assembled and decorated a tree for the Commons area and organized a small skit the day of dismissal for Christmas break. The council was also instrumental in attaining a break between 2nd and 3rd hours for the student body.
On the whole, the year can be looked back upon as one of hard work and success thanks to the devotion of each and every member.
