Taking Time
to Help Others
Imagine
what it would be like to not be able to purchase basic hygiene necessities
such as soap, brushes, and toothpaste. People often take for granted
being able to perform routine habits such as brushing their teeth. Student
council worked to solve one family's problems by participating in the
Adopt-A-Family program for Christmas.
Student council collected various hygiene products from the student
body. Students who brought the requested products were then eligible
for valuable prizes such as a camera or scientific calculator. Items
that were collected were then sent to the adopted family of student
council.
When asked what made the Adopt-A-Family program memorable, head sponsor,
Rick Hynek said, "The fact that we received a thank-you letter
from the family."
Student council was also responsible for the Homecoming festivities,
including the dance, and the organization provided many guest speakers
who spoke to the student body. Student council was also active in the
local bloodmobile sponsored by the American Red Cross.
"Working at the bloodmobile made me feel like I was doing a little
bit to help save someone's life," said Ryan Hammes, soph.
Working to benefit the community definitely made student council an
active organization.
