Helping Out Community
(Members Volunteer)

Being a volunteer brings the satisfaction of helping others. Without people who take time out from their own daily schedules, some important duties may take longer or never be completed. The Student Council took action and volunteered their time to help out at the annual Bloodmobile, sponsored by the Red Cross.
"It was a new experience to help people give blood, because it's not something you get to do every day," said Jarbae Allen, soph.
Two shifts of workers aided the nurses from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The volunteers made sure all necessary supplies were present, escorted the donors to the stations, carried blood, and helped each donor to a resting area.
The group also carried out several other successful projects. A Valentines' dance was held on Friday, February 14. Each person in attendance was entered into a raffle. The prizes were two $10 gift certificates.
StuCo also sponsored a dinner at Valentino's for the class that had the highest percentage of members who attended the sub-state basketball games. The competition was won by the freshmen.
Another responsibility was homecoming. The dance and spirit week was fun for everyone. Through much organization and planning, the activities of the Student Council were helpful and were enjoyed by each student. It was nice to know there was a group that represented the students who would listen to their needs.
"I became involved with StuCo because the organization has the power to make changes in the school," said Michelle , soph.
