What does it take to be a successful school organization? Well, if you would have asked any given member from Student Council, their reply would have been something to the effect of "hard work, dedication, and an abundance of time." But that is not all that made this club "click"; the students themselves contributed largely to the success of Student Council, or StuCo, as it is more commonly called.
"StuCo does many different things for this school and tries to get students involved. It's important to have a club like StuCo so students feel like they have somewhere to turn when it comes to making improvements in their school," T.J. Haverkamp, sr., said.
Aside from organizing homecoming, which proved to be no small feat, StuCo did many different projects.
To get the school year off to a good start, they sponsored a Back to School dance. Purchasing a coin counting machine for the office was one of StuCo's main purchases. They also donated $200 worth of toys to the Christmas store and provided movies and treats for the students the day before Christmas vacation. The main project of StuCo, however, was the purchasing of trees for the school grounds.
"I feel like we got a lot accomplished in StuCo this year. It feels like we actually made a difference by getting involved and taking action in decisions that would affect the student body," Lisa Hermesch, so., said.
Without StuCo, students would not have those "major necessities," like the candy machines. StuCo members put in a great amount of time and effort in order to make improvements in the school. It all goes to show that with the right combination of willing students and great contributions anything is possible.
