Changing Our Clothes
What
would the teachers do if about 200 students came to them voicing opinions
on what they wanted, when they wanted it, and how they wanted it? Fortunately
for the statff, we have the Student Council representatives. Anything
that may help the school can be brought to the attention of a StuCo
member. That representative will then bring it to the attention of the
rest of the StuCo representatives. From there, one or two StuCo representatives
will bring the issue to the attention of the staff.
"I love having a say in what our school allows us to do. It makes
school seem more like the students are helping to run things instead
of always having to follow unwanted rules," Michelle Roland, soph.,
said.
There is always something for the StuCo reps to do. The candy machines
have to be filled every day for the students at lunch and break. They
plan homecoming activities, such as the dress-up days, Olympic games,
and the assemblies during activity periods for the homecoming candidates.
In the annual parade, the StuCo reps introduc the candidates to the
public.
"StuCo is a great club to be in. They didn't have anything like
it when we were in junior high, so it is a whole new experience. A lot
of work goes into every activity we do," Mike Lueb, fr., said.
StuCo's main issue was the dress code. Each student had an opportunity
to fill out a survey about what they thought should be included in the
dress code. StuCo then totaled the results based on what the students
picked. A majority of the students wanted windpants, plaid shorts, mesh
shorts, and a change in the length of shorts. The surveys were then
presented to Principal Duane Osborne who tentatively approved the changes.
