For the first time, our school was fortunate to have a girls' team eager to start running.

At league, they came away with the school's first league championships. Leading the girls was league and regional champion Cassie Clark, who finished in thirteen minutes. Clark was followed closely by her teammates, Rita Buttner, so., in seventh; Melissa Clarkson, fr., 14th; Becky Proffitt, jr., 16th; and Tonya Wessel, fr., 19th to fulfill the team's goal of running at state.

After doing well at state, Buttner said, "At first we didn't succeed, but we tried and tried again till we got fifth at state!"

Taking sixth place at the league meet, the boys knew it was important for each one to run well at regionals in order to make it to state.

At the regional meet, the boys came away with third place by a very close win over Pleasant Ridge.

"It's really cool to see and be a part of a team that is so young which can do so much," said Paul Strickland, so.

At state, each member ran their hearts out to finish the season in 12th place.

Coach Eric Buetzer was proud of both teams and said, "I felt both squads made a great deal of progress throughout the season." Buetzer is looking forward to another great cross country season since all runners should be returning. - Mary Haugness
