"Gatorade!" gasped the exhausted runner. This was the vision of cross country runners finishing a competitive race. Though many looked forward to gatorade, runners' thoughts were on the "adrenaline high" developed at the last quarter of the race. Satisfaction came from pushing beyond the limits to pass opponents and to meet personal goals. This brought cross country runners beyond their full potential.
"Before each race, I focused on getting out there and not getting boxed in. I needed confidence in myself and my team." said Kim Clark, fr.
The results for male and female cross country runners were promising. The male runners coud not score as a team, but competed as individuals with excellent scoures and times. Fortunately, the girls could score as a team. They placed second at regionals and seventh at state. Individuals all demonstrated their finest efforts at the meets. Crissy Heinen, Soph., placed first at regionals with a time of 12:28, and third at state with a time of 13:13. Terri Rissinger, soph., placed seventh at regionals with a time of 13:37. State cross country was held at Wamego. It was a wonderful opportunity for the team.
"Because I am a senior, my main goal was state. It took all of us, not just one, to get there," said Faye, sr.
Shane Osterhaus, fr., and Kim Clark, fr., demonstrated true dedication by competing in two sports. Over all, the cross country runners were proud of their many accomplishments attained through dedication and training.
