Andy Massieon, so., Judd O'Conner jr., and Darrin Eisenbarth, sr., look on dejectedly as Wellsville receives their first place medals. The Raiders ended up celebrating after realizing what a great accomplishment second place was.

"State, State, State," was the cry from the Raiders faithful as their Raiders took them to the final game in State. This impressive finish was a result of teamwork as well as individual effort.

The Season started with a second place finish in a pre-season tourney and continued into the first game of the season. The Raiders fell to Holton in the second game of the regular season. They then managed to beat a top ranked Sabetha team at Sabetha.

Kelly Rottinghaus and Eric Glissman, NV's big men, received all-league honors. Kelly easily broke the record for the most rebounds in NV's history. Eric was sometimes overshadowed by the flare of Kelly, but he played a very big part in the Raiders' season by providing outside shooting as well as inside moves on the boards.

Harold Schmelzle was the man-of-the-hour all through the season. He gave the Raiders an extra big man and also provided speed and court-sense. Harold was the recipient of the Darren Miller Inspiration Award, and played on an all-star team that played in McPherson.

The Raiders had an interchangeable arsenal of guards. Andy Massion and Darrin Eisenbarth were the starters throughout most of the season. Andy provided outside shooting, while Darrin commanded the team from the point position. The bench was deep with guards that could preform in the clutch. Todd Glissman was often placed in the lineup to control the tempo that was needed either for a fast or slow-paced game. Judd O'Conner, whose quickness provided steals, was used to produce points when behind and to kill off another team's rally.

With this team of giants and foxes, the Raiders traveled the remainder of the season losing only once in the second half to Royal Valley. NV split the league crown with Holton.

Sub-state awaited the Raiders and they answered the call by winning all three sub-state games and claiming the right to go to Hutchinson for the state play-offs.

NV managed to hold off Neodesha in an overtime victory. Top ranked Holcomb was the next team to fall victim to the Raiders' upset ways. In the final game with the Raiders' hopes up for grabs, NV fell short to Wellsville. This ended the Raiders season at 21-5 and a second place in state.
Kelly Rottinghaus, sr., looks to pass the ball off to Eric Glissman, jr., on a two on two fast break during the Nemaha Valley Invitational.
