"Back to Hutch we go " was the Nemaha Valley varsity boys' basketball team's quote for the year. The ultimate goal for the year was to reach the 3A Sate Tourney in Hutchinson. Fighting for the league title would also be a top priority on the list.

Success was inevitable at the tip-off of the season. The Kaw Valley Tournament appeared to be of little challenge to the Raider team from Seneca. The team cruised on to five league wins in a row. High hopes and bright eyes filled the bench during twenty point differences and easy wins over long time rivals and foes.

The second half of the season took a turn for the worst, but tournament time was right around the corner and thoughts of sub-state were not far off. Sixth place in their own Raider Classic seemed to disappoint not only players, but coaches and fans too. The Raiders, despite a few close losses, kept pace with others in the league by tying for third place in the standings.

Sub-state in Horton proved to be an obstacle the boys were capable of overcoming with ease. Playing Immaculata in the finals sparked the team more than ever before. This game seemed to bring out the best in all of the players as every single one scored during the game. Hutch was the next pothole in a long journey to success. Wichita Collegiate toppled the Raiders' chances, but not by much. The eventual 3A Champs took the game by only nine points. Time was the deciding factor in the game as NV was on a run when the buzzer signaled the end of regulation.

A year of many successes and a few disappointments ended on a good note. The boys learned more than basketball skills on the court and that was number one on the list of goals for the year.
