A battle of life and death. A war of pride and courage. Here at Nemaha Valley is no exception. They have never looked away when faced with adversity and have proved time and time again that they will always be a force to reckon with. To be a Raider you must show the determination to push through anything that lays in the way, the dedication to the object at hand, and the desire to succeed in a word of difficulty. Come join the world of Raider football.

History of Raider Football

Many teams talk about having a tradition but few can live up to what Nemaha Valley has molded throughout the years of its existence. The Raiders, as we like to call them, of past generations have made way for a team that is not scoffed at but respected. Feared. A team that is never overlooked no matter what their record shows. Few ever get the privilege to play as a Raider, but those that do never forget that chance. Since the toddler years of the Nemaha Valley High School the Raiders have time and time again put out teams that always had that shot at winning the state title. Recently basketball has became big with Nemaha Valley but it all began with the rise of Raider football. Way back when the school was just getting on its feet. Back then the Raiders became a force in the sport of football.

Football is a sport where pride, honor, and tradition reign supreme. It is a sport where only the teams with a solid tradition will manage time and time again to be a contender. It is the only sport that takes all the strength and all the intelligence you can muster and then some. It is the only place where you can take you aggression out on someone and not be arrested. It is the sport of what dreams are made of and where wishes come true. It makes heros out of people who without football would never be known. The game of football brings a lot to a society and never was it as true as it is here at Nemaha Valley.

What is the first thing that people think of when they think of Nemaha Valley. It's not golf or track. It's not basketball or volleyball. No, it's not one of those things. It's football. Football has been imbedded into the minds of Raider fans everywhere. Wherever you go you can hear people talking about Raider football this and Raider football that. Raider fans expect a lot out of the football team as well and the Raiders always live up to the task. Whether the Raiders end the season 8-1 or 2-7 they are always respected and backed by the fans. The fans know that even through the hard times there will be a time when Raider football will be back again. No team can bounce back from a bitter defeat and sweep over opponents like the Raiders can. They are almost as if they are unstoppable.

So, fans do not worry. No matter what happens, Raider football will always prevail. I promise that to you. The Raiders are here to stay. Opponents beware. Wouldn't want you to get hurt...would we?

The 70's Era

The 70's was the beginning. It was the decade that was going to determine Raider tradition for the rest of the school's future. That is a lot of weight to put on these young men's shoulders. These men though stepped forward and produced a great Raider heritage. It all started here, in the 70's, when the school was still young. These men made other teams stand up and recognize them as the Raiders rolled over opponents. This was a great way for the school to start out and really helped the Raiders break through in the 80's.

The 80's Era

The 80's was a time of Strenthening. The Raiders had already made a name for themselves but it was now time to build on that and make themselves into true champions. This is the decade in which the title shot for the Raiders grew closest. This was the decade that the Raiders became the big name team they are today. During this time the Raiders time and time again made it into the playoffs for the state championship. Each time though the Raiders fell just shy of their goal. Even though they never won the state title it was the teams during the 80's that really made a name for the Raiders.

The 90's Era

The 90's was the domination of football with not only the Raiders but the Big 7 League in all. With teams such as Sabetha who twice made were state champs, Maur Hill who through the 80's won state championship after state championship and won again in the 90's, and Holton who were runnerups in state competition consecutive years, it made the task all the more difficult for the Raiders. Though they were faced with much competition the Raiders still prevailed as they made their mark on football history. With the 90's ending it is time to see if the new millenium will live up to its predecesors. If the 90's is any outlook on it then I think Raider football will still remain on top.

The 2000 Era

This is the the new era of Raider football. The start of a new millinium, and the continuence of the Raider tradition. The Raiders will continue to make their mark in football history.
