Nemaha Valley High School
1991

Success followed through for the fifth time since 1984 when the Nemaha Valley golf team took a trip to state and finished with eighth place. The season had a mediocre start but finished with a bang and a team trip to state. With this accomplishment, they carried out a sort of "tradition" incorporated with fellow teams and athletes. Competing with a fairly young team consisting of five seniors, three sophomores, and five freshmen, they showed endurance and reached the highest goal possible--a trip to Hesston. The highlight of the season took place when the home team returned to school, the next day, with gold medals from their own triangular meet. "We had a lot of fun this year, especially when we made the waitress at the Marysville Pizza Hut sing 'Happy Birthday' to Mr. Hynek. We also had to learn and practice a great deal to improve enough to make it to state," Jason Nordhus, soph., said. An additional session was set up twice a week for the eight girls who joined the golf team. This group did not compete against the boys, but enjoyed learning from Mr. Hynek's expertise. Maybe in the near future, they will be able to join in on a trip to Hesston.
