The golfer smiled with pleasure as he watched his golf ball bounce onto the green and roll within good putting distance from the hole. It should be an easy shot, he thought to himself. Well,easy shot or not, the 1994 golf team proved once again that golf is not always laid back and the relaxing game it is often times mistakenfor. The Raider team was in it for the competition, and no one would stand in their path."I like the idea of competing as an individual, but at the same time being part of a team too.Individual competition is good. It makes you work harder and try to perform your best because you know all eyes are on you," Mike Hynek, soph., said. The golf team not only competed well as individuals, but also very well asa team. At the close of the season, six members of the team ventured to Hesston for state golf. As a team, they brought back a third place finish. Steven Rusche individually tied for first medalist with a score of 77 and Ryan Robke placed as the 11th medalist. "Golf doesn't seem to be as popular a sport as the others that are offered, but it's good to see more interest in the sport. It really is a lot of fun," David Kohake, soph., said. Whether you believe the game is in the tee off or it all comes down to chipping and putting, the Raiders displayed a large amount of all-around ability.
