To the Nemaha Valley High School golf team, golf was not a sport just for relaxing. The members of the team spent a great amount of time perfecting their game. These members of the team had no intention of playing the game for relaxation. These golfers had one big goal in front of them, and that was to golf better than any of the other schools. "I hear that golf is just a sport for wimps all the time," said David Kohake. "I would just like to prove it to all those people that not just anyone can go up to the course and golf good." The team worked hard in every way to become a better team. They had the goal to go to state and they started at the beginning of the season working towards that. Even in weather very unfavorable to practice, one could still find members of the golf team on the course or on the practice area trying to improve themselves. Mr. Hynek was always there to help the team members with whatever they needed. It was not always the most important members of the team he helped though; whenever one of the members who just wanted to learn how to play needed help, he was there too. The golfers proved to be very capable golfers throughout the season. Then it came to the end of the season and as usual, qualifying for regionals was conflicted with the senior trip. The team included seniors Mike Hynek, Brandon Nordhus, Steven Rusche, and David Kohake, Paul Kohake, jr., and Brad Hynek, so. These six golfers once again qualified for state and headed on to Hesston. "We had a very successful year even though at the very end it didn't turn out the best, we all had fun and tried our hardest," said Brad Hynek. With a successful year under their belts and many fun times, the Nemaha Valley Golf Team ended their season at Hesston in the state competition. These golfers returned from Hesston with a sixth place finish after a successful year.
