Conquering the Golf Course
By Erica Roeder

What do you think when you hear about golf? The Nemaha Valley golfers picture freshly cut grass and a
slight wind. They also feel the adrenalin pumping through their veins. They think about whom they are
playing against and how they may be successful.

“People think golf is easy, but it requires hours upon hours of practice to succeed. Then, in the end,
when you receive your medal you know your hard work and dedication paid off,” Matt Schmelzle, sr.,
said.

The team started practices after school in the end of March. They were required to go to practice no
matter what the weather. Many times it was cold, wet, and windy, but hey all stuck it out to find success
in the end.

This year, the golf team did superb with many accomplishments. They did well during the regular season,
and received first at league. At regionals the team placed second with Colin Olberding and Joe Harris
medaling. They continued on to state golf in Wichita. At state golf, the team received 6 th place with Joe
Harris medaling and the rest of the team following close behind. Everyone on the team was thrilled at the
great way the year ended.

“Golf is not only an individual sport, but a team sport. If one person shoots bad it affects the whole team,”
Craig Noland, jr., said.
