Setting records Our Way

Many track teams experience gut aches, sore muscles, and dripping sweat. Nemaha Valley track team wanted to be a diverse group and experience something aside from the norm at practice and during the meets. Although there was intense training and deep focus, the team managed to have a little fun. Whether ie was running in the rain, playing Frisbee, or listening to Coach Terpening sing, everyone found time to fit in a couple laughs here and there.

As the season began, competition on the Raider track team was fierce. And as the season continued, the competition was strong enough to develop five 3A state qualifiers.

The Raider track team was nothing less than determined. The boys finished with a well-deserved 3 rd place in the league meet at Jeff West. The girls’ team did not finish quite as notably, but with only nine out, their success was must deserved.

“Track in high school is much more individualized than in junior high,” quoted Samantha Davis, fr.

The track team saw just that. Coaches tried their best to see that each athlete received individual attention throughout practice. Regionals came and then State coached found it much easier to help all their athletes throughout the day.

While at state, Jonathan Bennett, jr., had a good finish to his track season with a sixth place in the 300 hurdles, as did Sarah Helm, jr., placing sixth in the 100 hurdles. The 4x800 team was one place away from medaling but ran a nice race
