1986

First Row: Chris , Joey , Dan , Chris , Shane

It was a record year for the Nemaha Valley wrestling team, as the squad sent five of the eight substate wrestlers to the State Wrestling tournament, which was held at Fort Hays State on February 28 and March 1. The five included three first-year state participants, Chris , Jeff , and Joey in the 119, 167, and 105 pound weight divisions, respectively. Even though the three did not go far in state, they did represent the school well with some great effort.

Making his second straight appearance at Hays was Brad , who wrestled at 132. Brad went 2-2 at the tourney to place in the top six of his class, matching his same beat of a year before when he was in the 119 division.

Rounding out the group was 185-pounder Matt . Matt was called "the most dominant wreslter in the 3A, 2A, 1A tournament" in an article from the Topeka Daily Capital, and he lived up to his billing, finishing a perfect 27-0 season with a win over Corey Raulston of Oberlin to win the 185-pound championship, completing an illustrious high school wrestling career.

Also contributing to make it a good seasonwas Chris Ramsey, Shane , Dan , and Steve Haug.
